Seeking transformation
One’s journey should lead to unexpected places. In my early 20s, I considered myself a musician. In my late 20s and early 30s, a writer with no time to write, so I turned to trade work. I’d dabbled in various construction related jobs throughout my life because they paid well, but never taken it to heart. Even so, I was good at hands-on, mechanical work and I had an eye for colors, geometry and aesthetic outcomes. Combined with an “eclectic” attention span that afforded me comfort in doing lots of different things at once, I found myself drawn to the idea of being prolific in all manner of repairs and small projects. Someone out there does these things, why not me? I already had a great foundation and a workshop full of tools… why not take this work seriously?
So in 2017, I shifted from a career doing estimating and sales, to full-time home-repair work. All kinds. Over the course of seven years, I widened my range of knowledge and built a customer base almost 400 strong in the Greater San Antonio area.
During that time, I also found a renewed sense of purpose in my career. This was additive work. Constructive on more levels than one. Helping people in mostly small, but sometimes quite impactful ways. Bringing honesty and integrity into a space that is often plagued by bait and switch tactics and bottom-line decisions. I’d found an intersection of meaningful purpose in my vocation. There was a renewed sense of beauty in the simplicity of the work. Everything is catalyst for change and growth. The work we do becomes part of our Great Work, and this is alchemy of the transformation of the Self. So I greet you, my friends, in the love and the light of the One Infinite Creator. From one adept to another.
